The Australian Market and Social Research Society (AMSRS) is the professional association for research professionals and represents market and social researcher including research consultants, academics, research operations, recruitment, field and data professionals throughout Australia.

What is the vision and mission of AMSRS?

  • The stated vision of the AMSRS is “to be a growing and engaging association, recognised for our valuable contribution to the research profession.”
  • The mission statement of purpose is “to promote and develop the market, social and organisational research profession for Australia by providing standards, professional development opportunities, member services and by representing the profession to external stakeholders.”

AMSRS codes, principles and policies

AMSRS upholds a set of professional industry, legislative and organisational codes, principals and policies as part of its overarching responsibility to members, employees and other stakeholders.

The AMSRS Code of Professional Behaviour (the COPB) sets out the basic principles that must guide the actions of those who carry out or use market, social and organisational research. It is designed as a framework for self-regulation and provides the public, government and business community with the assurances needed to encourage informed and willing participation in market and social research.

All individual members of the AMSRS are bound by the COPB which covers both the ethical requirements and standard conditions of conducting and reporting market and social research. It is the responsibility of members to keep themselves updated on the Code. The Code can be found on the AMSRS website at

All volunteer members and employees are required to be familiar with the Code of Professional Behaviour, the Committee Code of Conduct and the principles, policies and codes outlined in the AMSRS regulations.

Strategic relationships

In Australia the AMSRS, through the Board, works with AMSRO (Association of Market and Social Research Organisations) via RICA (Research Industry Council of Australia), which is a joint venture between AMSRS and AMSRO designed to improve the quality of research practices in Australia. ;

The President, Vice President and CEO of AMSRS and the President, Vice President and the Executive Directors of AMSRO sit on RICA. Initiatives include: Government relations activities, Client Advisory Board (CAB), Research Effectiveness Awards (REAs), Professional and quality standards.

Nationally and internationally AMSRS has key strategic relationships with: APRC (Asia Pacific Research Committee), GRBN (Global Research Business Network), ESOMAR (European Society for Opinion and Market Research), AMI Australian Market Institute), and AES Australian Evaluation Society)
